Description

Jane Eyre is an Australian micro-négociant who has been living and working in Beaune for more than 20 years. She made a distinct mark in Burgundy in 2021 when she was awarded a coveted Négociant of the Year award for her label of distinguished wines with a focus on Pinot Noir. Jane also returns to Australia each year to make a line of terroir-driven Pinot Noir bottlings from exceptional sites in Victoria and Tasmania. There is a lightness of touch thread to her wines from both continents that attracts a strong following.

I started working with this appellation in 2014. This wine is usually a blend of 2 parcels located in Comblanchien and Corgoloin which are owned by the same grower. However, this year I obtained fruit from another parcel in Corgoloin, situated less than 100 metres from the other parcel.

The fruit from these parcels works extremely well with a higher percentage of whole clusters and, since 2019, I have fermented a portion with 100% whole bunches. The final percentage this year is approximately 50%. Aged mostly in 300L barrels and 1 new 500L barrel. The wine was bottled at the end of July 2024.

Review
Comblanchien and Corgoloin. 50% whole bunch. Red berries, spice, a bit stony and earthy, some floral notes, a light toasty character from oak. It’s light to medium-bodied, red fruits and earth, a little sappy and spicy, fine-grained tannin, balanced acidity, with a juicy and orange peel finish of good length, some powdery tannin to close. Nice.

Tasting Profile
nose

Garnet in colour with a wonderfully aromatic nose consisting of bright fruit with hints of spice.

palate

The palate has loads of red summer fruit coupled with spice and cedar notes coming from the new barrel and finishing with fine tannins. This wine always over delivers.
