Description

Harvested from premium vineyards across the Clare Valley, bunches are handled to bring out the unique characters of each block. Kilikanoon vineyards span all three valleys that make up the distinctive environment of the Clare Valley region.

Named after Bruce Baudinet, a partner in Kilikanoon Wines and vineyard owner from where the Mataro and Shiraz for the blend are selected. This multi award-winning wine is crafted in the image of a classic southern Rhone blend, the three varieties come together with tremendous synergy, balance and complexity.

Fifteen months in French oak; both large format (puncheons) and hogs head. 10% New French Oak. Harvested separately at optimum flavour ripeness and vinified in small open fermenters, where time honoured techniques of hand plunging, délestage and basket pressing were used to gently extract colour, flavour and tannin from the skins. Once pressed, each batch is matured for fifteen months in seasoned French oak before the final cuvée is assembled.

Review
This is a blend that shows the distinct influence of the slightly cooler climes from the high vineyard on the eastern ridge of the Clare Valley. It is so seamlessly structured, with perfectly integrated and weighted fruit, oak and tannins. It’s silky smooth and almost effortlessly poised. Medium-bodied, but with tremendous depth of fruit, showing those vibrant floral notes. A wonderful example of this combination.

Tasting Profile
Nose

Crushed granite and graphite layered with mulberries, spiced plums, and cinnamon spice.

Palate

Concentrated and layered. Strawberry coulis, native currant, boysenberry and tea leaf are underpinned by rosehip and cinnamon bark. Vibrant, textural and expressive; medium-bodied, smooth and exceptionally balanced. The plush, velveteen tannins envelope the long, elegant finish that emphasises structure, finesse and subtle oak nuances.
