The History and Significance of Aia Vecchia Wines

Aia Vecchia, an ancient building nestled in the picturesque Tuscan countryside between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci, stands as the heart of the winery that bears its name. Today, it serves as a symbol of tradition and excellence.

Perfectly Situated Vineyards

The vineyards of Aia Vecchia span across the Bolgheri and Maremma regions on the enchanting Tuscan Coast. These meticulously cultivated vineyards are home to an array of carefully selected grape varietals, including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Vermentino, and Viognier. The unique combination of a particularly favourable microclimate and well-suited soils in this area allows for the production of exceptional quality wines.

The strategic positioning of the vineyards plays a crucial role in the creation of these remarkable wines. Situated to receive abundant sunlight, both directly and reflected off the nearby sea, the vines bask in a generous amount of light. This favourable exposure allows for an early harvest, capturing the essence and vibrancy of the grapes.

A Legacy of Grape Growing

For generations, the Pellegrini family, proud owners of Aia Vecchia, have been dedicated grape growers in the Bolgheri area. Their commitment to quality has earned them a reputation, and their grapes have been sought after by renowned wineries in the region for decades.

Driven by a passion for winemaking, the Pellegrini family embarked on a bold endeavour in 1995. Replanting their original vineyards, they took the leap and established their own winery. Their vision was to craft a collection of small-lot, high-quality Super Tuscan blends that would showcase the excellence of Bordeaux grape varieties.

In their pursuit of winemaking perfection, Aia Vecchia sought the expertise of renowned Hungarian winemaker Tibor Gal. Together, they meticulously selected an exceptional property in the Bolgheri DOC, where the fusion of microclimate, terrain, and elevation provides an ideal environment for cultivating premium grapes.

Furthermore, Aia Vecchia enlisted the assistance of esteemed agronomist Daniel Schuster. With his guidance, they carefully chose the finest varieties, clones, and rootstocks, directly sourced from Bordeaux. This meticulous approach ensures the exceptional quality that defines Aia Vecchia wines.
