Founded in 1834 on the hill of l’Hermitage in Tain l’Hermitage, the Paul Jaboulet Aîné house oversees an exceptional heritage that brings together the most famous terroirs of the northern Rhone valley and produces quintessential great wines.
1834
Paul Jaboulet Aîné was founded by Antoine Jaboulet (1807-1864) in Tain l’Hermitage and grew under the management of his sons, Paul and Henry, and their descendants.
1919
Acquisition of Saint Christophe chapel at the top of the Hermitage hillside.
1940
Louis Jaboulet (1912-2012) took over the family business. A pioneering and inquisitive man, he made 42 harvests, including several legendary vintages.
1950
Creation of Parallèle 45, the oldest Côtes du Rhône wine.
1961
Hermitage La Chapelle 1961, one of the iconic wines of the 20th century.
1977
Gérard Jaboulet took up the torch and developed Paul Jaboulet Aîné throughout the world until his death in 1997.
2006
Caroline Frey takes over the management of the house and initiates the transition to organic and biodynamic farming.
2009 – 2010
The Wine Advocate hails the new life breathed into Domaines Paul Jaboulet Aîné: «You only have to look at what owner Caroline Frey has achieved in 2009 and 2010 to see the extraordinary evolution in the quality of Jaboulet wines.»

Construction of a new gravity-fed cellar.

Organic certification and transition to biodynamics.

Caroline Frey receives the insignia of Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite for her commitment to organic viticulture and the protection of the terroir and the environment.
2021
Amorim Biodiversity Award at the Drinks Business Green Awards 2021.
2023
Caroline Frey receives the Insignia of Officier du mérite agricole. Creation of Domaine de La Chapelle, bringing together the two legendary cuvées: La Chapelle and Le Chevalier de Sterimberg.
