The History and Significance of Fermoy Estate

Fermoy Estate, situated in the breathtaking region of Wilyabrup, holds a prestigious position as the "jewel in the crown" of Margaret River, Western Australia's renowned winemaking region.

Establishment and Ancestral Homage

Founded in 1985 by John and Beryl Anderson, Fermoy Estate pays homage to one of John Anderson's forebears—an enterprising Scottish-born businessman who acquired a portion of Fermoy Estate in northern Cork, Ireland. A purpose-built winery was constructed in 1987, and the inaugural vintage was produced in 1988.

A Journey of Ownership

In 1999, the Estate caught the attention of Hans Hulsbergen, a Dutch/Swiss businessman, who acquired it. Under his ownership, a substantial portion of the winery's output was exported to Europe. Then, in December 2010, the Estate found new custodianship in the hands of Perth brothers Aaron and John Young.

A Testament to Tradition

The vineyards of Fermoy Estate are diligently managed by a dedicated full-time team, upholding time-honoured practices such as handpicking and hand-pruning. This commitment ensures the exceptional quality and consistency of the grapes, a testament to Fermoy Estate's devotion to tradition.

The Golden Triangle of Wilyabrup

Wilyabrup, blessed with fertile, well-drained soils and optimal temperatures, stands as an enchanting paradise for wine enthusiasts. Regarded as the "golden triangle" of Margaret River, this region cultivates a diverse range of grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Shiraz.

A Seamless Journey from Vineyard to Winery

Situated in close proximity to the vineyard, Fermoy Estate's winery ensures that grapes are promptly processed, preserving their premium qualities. Annually, the winery handles approximately 350 tonnes of grapes, maintaining a seamless journey from vine to bottle.

Marrying Tradition with Innovation

As one of the pioneering vineyards in the Margaret River region, Fermoy Estate continually embraces new ideas and cutting-edge technology. This harmonious blend of tradition and innovation underscores Fermoy's commitment to producing the finest wines while upholding environmental sustainability.

The Artistry of Winemaking

Under the guidance of esteemed winemakers Liz Dawson and Coralie Garnier-Lewis, Fermoy Estate crafts wines renowned for their exceptional quality, elegance, and distinction. Liz Dawson, having served as senior winemaker for over a decade, embarked on a new chapter, leaving a remarkable legacy. In January 2015, Jeremy Hodgson took the reins as senior winemaker, armed with a first-class degree in oenology and viticulture. With experience garnered from esteemed Western Australian wineries, Jeremy strives to utilize the Estate's premium location and superb fruit to establish Fermoy wines as some of the finest produced in Western Australia.
