The Historical Legacy of Azelia Wines

Azelia Wines is a small, family-run winery with a rich history dating back to 1920. Nestled in the heart of the Langhe region, specifically Castiglione Falletto, Azelia has been an integral part of the renowned wine-producing area of Barolo. This picturesque region is celebrated worldwide for its exceptional wines, making it one of the most extraordinary wine regions in the world.

Preserving Tradition and Embracing Heritage

For five generations, Azelia has remained dedicated to cultivating vineyards with unwavering devotion. Their commitment lies in nurturing the three native local grape varieties: Dolcetto, Barbera, and predominantly Nebbiolo. These grapes are meticulously transformed into DOC and DOCG wines, which honour the typicity, tradition, and history of the breathtaking hills that surround the winery. In fact, these hills have earned the prestigious recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site, cementing their significance in the wine world.

A Journey of Perseverance and Success

Over the course of 100 years, Azelia has triumphed through the challenges of time. The winery's foundation was laid in 1920 by Cavalier Lorenzo Scavino, who began vinifying grapes from the family's vineyards. It was his son, Alfonso, who fervently embraced the practice of bottling the wines, and through the determination of Lorenzo's father, the wines were successfully exported for the first time.

From humble beginnings in Piedmont during the early 1900s, Azelia's success story is a testament to hard work, unparalleled experience, and unwavering moral strength.

The Present Generation and the Pursuit of Excellence

Today, Azelia thrives under the stewardship of Luigi, who brings forth over 40 harvests worth of experience. Supported by his wife Lorella and their son Lorenzo, who represents the fifth generation of wine producers, the family's dedication remains unwavering.

Azelia manages a total of 16 hectares of vineyards, producing an average of 85,000 bottles annually. The family's direct involvement in every aspect of production is vital, ensuring precision and meticulousness throughout the winemaking process.

Meticulous Vineyard Practices and Cellar Traditions

The utmost care is given to Azelia's vineyards, where wine comes to life from ancient vines that yield only a small number of grapes. Through the meticulous technique of green harvest, the yields are further reduced, enabling the selection of the finest fruits, uniform ripening, and impeccable quality.

In the cellar, Azelia upholds a scrupulous attention to detail and a profound respect for tradition. These principles guide their winemaking process, ensuring that every bottle embodies the essence of their heritage and the unparalleled flavours of the Langhe region.
