The History of Scorpo Wines

Scorpo Wines carries a rich legacy that spans generations and continents, rooted in a deep passion for the art of winemaking. From Sicily to Sardinia and eventually Australia, this family endeavour has evolved into a remarkable wine enterprise.

Combining Tradition and Innovation

Nestled in Merricks North, on Australia's Mornington Peninsula, the Scorpo family vineyard serves as a testament to blending old-world practices with new-world flavours. With a strong emphasis on cultivating premium grapes, meticulous site selection, and implementing best practices in vineyard management and processes, Scorpo Wines cherishes the belief that exceptional fruit yields extraordinary wine.

A Diverse Range of Wines

Scorpo Wines proudly offers an exquisite range of wines, each embodying the essence of their respective varietals. From the elegance of Pinot Noir to the boldness of Shiraz, the freshness of Rose, the richness of Chardonnay, and the distinct character of Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio Tradizionale, their portfolio draws inspiration from renowned wine regions such as Burgundy, Alsace, and Côte-Rôtie.

The Discovery of a Hidden Gem

In 1996, after extensive research into the cool, maritime microclimates of the Mornington Peninsula, the Scorpo family discovered a hidden gem. While driving through the Peninsula's ridge systems, they stumbled upon a "For Sale" sign on a parcel of land that was once a cherry and apple orchard dating back to the 1900s. Enveloped by rolling hills, nestled between Port Phillip Bay and Westernport, the potential of this site was undeniable, concealed amidst pine trees, abandoned stables, machinery sheds, and even a group of Welsh ponies.

A Blossoming Vision

When purchased, the vineyard was an overgrown orchard, with only six acres of remnant bush vegetation. Beyond its exceptional grape-growing conditions, this multi-dimensional site presented vast ecological possibilities. Since 1997, the Scorpo family has been actively rejuvenating the bush block, meticulously planting indigenous plants like Messmates, Melaleucas, Wattles, and native dogwoods. Thousands of indigenous trees, shrubs, and groundcovers now adorn the roadside reserves surrounding the vineyard. Furthermore, a magnificent 5-hectare Olive Grove, fruit orchards, and a flourishing kitchen garden have also been established, enhancing the natural beauty and sustainable practices of the estate.
