Shaw & Smith Lenswood Vineyard Pinot Noir 2024
Growing the best possible grapes, managing vineyards sustainably, and valuing vine health, soil health, and low yields are central to the Shaw + Smith approach. In the pursuit of quality the wines are fermented, aged and bottled on site at Balhannah. The wines are vibrant, modern expressions of their varieties, their sites and the season. Shaw + Smith own four Adelaide Hills vineyards, in Lenswood, Piccadilly, Balhannah and Lobethal.
Our Lenswood Vineyard is planted mainly to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, at 455 – 500m elevation. Undulating with east and west facing aspects, the soils are brown loams over clay with broken shale on the ridges. The vineyard was planted in 1999 and is 20 hectares in total.
Hand-picked and hand sorted, then long slow ferments in wood and stainless steel vats, followed by 10 months in 500 litre puncheons, 30% new.
Will reward careful cellaring for up to 15 years.
Delicate and perfumed with a distinct, savoury edge. The 2024 season delivered all the intensity required, with a slightly darker fruit spectrum and great concentration of flavour.
The palate is supple yet structured, with firmer lines lending shape and persistence, balancing fragrance with depth and quiet power.
