Description

Greywacke is the venture of Kevin Judd, former winemaker at Cloudy Bay for twenty five years and in the process established it as the world's most famous wineries. The Greywacke wines are made by Kevin at Dog Point Winery in the lower Brancott Valley, a facility extended to him by long-standing friends and industry colleagues, Ivan Sutherland and James Healy.

100% pinot noir sourced principally from the Yarrum vineyard in Marlborough's Southern Valleys.

Hand-harvested and sorted. Destemmed into open top fermenters, mostly whole bunch. Indigenous yeast fermented with daily plunging. Individual clones matured separately in French oak (30% new) for 11 months.

Review
Fabulous bouquet with complexity and depth, purity of fruit and a sense of site, winemaking style and intrigue. Aromas and flavours of spiced blackcurrant and dark cherry, hay and dried herb, stone and barrel smoke and violet. Dry, a firm texture with polished tannins and medium+ acid line. As the wine opens out in glass the core flavours and texture show more intensity and complexity, a wine that will continue to age and develop.

Tasting Profile
nose

This 2022 Greywacke Pinot Noir is another exceptional Pinot release from the team at Greywacke; a highly perfumed style of Marlborough Pinot Noir featuring exotic fruit sweetness, a cedar-like spiciness and a delicate smoky scent reminiscent of lapsang souchong.

palate

The palate is dense and generous with ripe cherry-plum richness, some soft licorice and clove and a fine but voluptuous tannin structure.
