Description

Founded in 1948 by François Raveneau, the estate’s dedication to excellence has been upheld by his sons, Jean-Marie and Bernard, and now by the third generation, ensuring consistency and refinement in every vintage.

Informed by the estate’s oldest vines, planted in the 1930s and yielding small, concentrated grapes, Raveneau’s 2023 Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot has turned out very well. Located at the top of the lieu-dit, where the soils are shallower and defined by the early morning sun that lasts until late afternoon.

Review
The 2023 Chablis “Blanchot” from Domaine Raveneau is a great wine in the making. The wine’s aromatic constellation delivers notes of lemon, pear, anise, chalky soil tones, beeswax, just a whisper of oyster shell, spring flowers and a touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and utterly classic in profile, with a rock solid core of pure fruit, great mineral undertow, an excellent girdle of acidity and a long, pure and perfectly balanced finish. (Drink between 2032-2075)

Review
These 90-year-old vines sit at the top of Blanchot and benefit from more sunshine than much of the Grand Cru. The result is a delightfully gluttonous fruit intensity that saturates the palate. Toasted brioche and gingerbread link up with Poire Williams and sappy citrus. The acidity is suavely integrated, and there is a pleasant crunch of fine-boned tannins that accentuate the satisfying dryness of the interminable finish.
