Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru 2022
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, often known simply as PYCM, is the husband and wife team of Pierre-Yves Colin and Caroline Morey - a meeting of families steeped in Burgundian tradition.
Pierre-Yves is the eldest son of the Marc Colin, where he worked until 2005 - he established his own negociant business and domaine from family vineyards he inherited. His star has been rising ever since, making electric wines from parcels across Saint Aubin, Puligny, Meursault, Corton and his home commune of Chassagne.
The wines are pure and driven, with no batonnage (lees-stirring), only natural yeasts, and no fining or filtering. The corks are extra-long and bottles wax-sealed to avoid any possibility of premature oxidation. He builds white wines for the long haul.
This is a Chardonnay that’s got a bit of muscle to it - generous yellow fruit on the nose and enough acidity to keep it all in check. It’s not shy on the finish either, stretching out in that way that makes you want to take another sip. The wine’s spent a good stretch in the cellar, in mostly 350-litre barrels, giving it time to build texture without getting too flashy. It’s a wine that shows off the stony side of Chassagne without losing the fruit. This should develop beautifully in the cellar if you've got the willpower to resist it. Extremely rare, just a handful of bottles available.
