Description

Mount Ossa, rising from the pristine wilderness of Tasmania’s Central Highlands, is a dramatic landmark carved by ice and wind. Rugged and commanding, framed by twin dolerite peaks, it is Tasmania’s highest mountain and the inspiration behind the Ossa collection of distinguished wines.

The Ossa wines journey began in 2017 when Rod and Cecile Roberts purchased their 600-hectare farm on the East Coast of Tasmania. Parcels of land in this revered wine growing appellation are tightly held and rarely become available. Captivated by the wild, ancient landscape they knew instinctively that they had found their site. Rod’s background in horticulture and knowledge of the local soil and water dynamics made them confident grapes would flourish on the property.

Parcels of Syrah clones SARDI-7 and PT23 were fermented separately with small inclusions of whole berry and whole cluster. Matured for 9 months in 500L French oak puncheons (25% new) with minimal intervention prior to bottling.

Review
A vibrant purple red in the glass. Lifted and heady aromas of blueberry, sarsaparilla, clove, dried herbs, Asian spice and an enticing bunchy funk. Fresh, crunchy, bright and punchy in flavour. Full of blue fruits, sweet spice, nutty oak and a wild, brambly exotic-ness. The tannins are shapely, firm and savoury and the acidity brings plenty of snap and crackle to the finish. A lovely example of a cooler climate, mid-weighted shiraz

Review
A really impressive East Coast syrah that shows bright plum and forest fruits, daubed with fine spice, white and black pepper, pan juices, violets, gingerbread, olive tapenade, roasting meats, licorice and earth. Harmonious and elegant with a lithe, finely-honed palate, powdered, granitic tannins, bright acidity and a pitch perfect composition and travel. Finishes long and bright.

Inky purple, notes of blackberry, white pepper and violet. An intense and alluring expression of cool climate Syrah, bold yet precise with exotic spice, supported by fine-grained tannins.
