Leeuwin Estate Prelude Chardonnay 2023
Margaret River produces more top-quality Chardonnay than just about any region in Australia, and from one of the founding wineries comes this gorgeous Chardonnay of uncompromising quality and drinkability. The balance achieved by Leeuwin Estate between flavour and structure is impressive, crafting a wine that is delicious to drink now, but in typical Leeuwin Estate style, it is a Chardonnay that will continue to build complexity as it ages.
With the new release of the iconic Art Series Chardonnay pushing above $160 per bottle, the value on offer with the second ‘Prelude’ label is phenomenal. For closer to $35, you are getting a wine that is only a fraction below the quality of the Art Series in quality. (Yes, that’s almost five bottles of Prelude to one of the Art Series. Crazy, I know) If you love Chardonnay, this is a no-brainer.

Bright, fragrant and energetic, the nose of the wine shows lime sherbert, pear and burnt lemon, and just a touch of white nectarine. Faintly floral, wattle, jasmine and frangipani emerge, with brioche, cardamon and chamomile in tow.
On the palate, finger lime, white peach and nashi pear are all on display, the wine’s generosity offset by freshness and tension; the palate weight and texture is gently framed by quality French oak. All this leads on to a finish ultimately defined by balance and refreshment - an excellent, classic expression of Margaret River Chardonnay.
