Our methods may be old fashioned, but at Kay Brothers we are proud to make McLaren Vale wines that truly express their terroir. The aim in the winery is to do whatever we can to preserve the amazing flavours and characters nature provides in the vineyard. To achieve this, we strive to be as gentle as possible from harvest all the way through to the original open fermenters, hand plunging and our heritage 1928 basket press.
For well over a century, Shiraz has played the main role in producing wines of outstanding quality, depth and longevity at Kay Brothers. The Basket Press Shiraz continues this tradition. The vineyards sourced for this wine have a predominantly eastern exposure. Soil varies from sandy loam at the the top of the hill to heavier loam and clay on the lower slopes. The dry climate forces the vine roots to delve into the complex underlying geology consisting of quartz and ironstone gravels, weathered and calcerous sandstone, siltstone and limestone.
The Basket Press Shiraz provides a fruit driven, full bodied McLaren Vale Shiraz in true Kay Brothers style.
Perfumed floral notes, dark cherries and dried herbs.
The palate is bright, fresh and juicy. It has dark fruits and a hint of mocha followed by soft velvet tannins.
