Description

Dönnhoff make the best wines in the Nahe region, and some of the finest anywhere in the world. While it was Helmut Dönnhoff that launched this estate to worldwide attention, winemaking duties are now managed by his talented son, Cornelius. There's a deep understanding of the grand wines and grand vineyards that's been handed down through the generations. And given the enormous technical proficiency Cornelius has demonstrated so far, Dönnhoff is sure to be at the top of the vinous hierarchy for years to come.

A historic steeply sloping vineyard that Dönnhoff awoke from its slumber. Steep terraces in a hollow with slate and porphyry soils. The vines are about 20 years old and yield about 35hl/ha. 100% selective hand harvest. The must is fermented and the wine matured in classic wooden barrels and stainless-steel vats. Vigorously spicy and at the same time dancingly elegant with great depth and a fascinating charisma.

Review
This dry Riesling has a hypnotic beauty that leaves no doubt how this wine redefines what peachy means in the context of this grape variety. As it aerates, a wealth of wild berry and flower nuances develop and expand. Given the mind-bending concentration of this wine, it is staggeringly fresh and absolutely precise. Then comes the finish, which is like a prima ballerina dancing on pointe off into the distance. Drink from release.

Tasting Profile
nose

A tender lemon zest note holds traces of white summer blossom, wet stone and a touch of chervil—beautifully tender.

palate

The slender palate, likewise, is lemon-dominated, bright, sunny and friendly in its citric smile. The 2023 is agile, tingling and slender with a subtle stoniness. This is as wonderfully pervasive, tart and palate-cleansing as lemon sorbet.
