Description

A pivotal element within Yarra Yering's esteemed flagship blend, Dry Red Wine No. 1, is typically challenging to present as a singular varietal bottling due to its intricate nature. However, the bountiful yields and exceptional flavors of the 2019 vintage permitted the creation of a limited batch. Revealing notes reminiscent of rich berry compote and the allure of a well-aged cigar box, the inherent velvety character of Merlot lends itself to an alluringly abundant fruit-driven palate. Delicate undertones of warm, nuanced brown spices such as clove and cardamom contribute both intricacy and a refined framework. The vineyard's cool climate imprint guarantees an invigorating acidic vibrancy and a distinct linear profile, perpetuating a harmonious play of flavors and textures.

Review

“Merlot doesn’t often appear as a YY varietal bottling – the last was in 2012. While somewhat closed, this is starting to reveal itself as a wine of note. Raspberries and blackcurrants doused with cocoa and a vibrancy throughout. There’s a plushness across the palate, with woodsy spices and a slight green cardamom taste that’s unusual but appealing.”
