Jane Eyre Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir 2024
Jane Eyre is an Australian micro-négociant who has been living and working in Beaune for more than 20 years. She made a distinct mark in Burgundy in 2021 when she was awarded a coveted Négociant of the Year award for her label of distinguished wines with a focus on Pinot Noir. Jane also returns to Australia each year to make a line of terroir-driven Pinot Noir bottlings from exceptional sites in Victoria and Tasmania. There is a lightness of touch thread to her wines from both continents that attracts a strong following.
2024 Mornington is again a single vineyard wine with the fruit coming from Shoreham Park, this volcanic soil parcel overlooks the water to Philip Island.
Hand-picked and sorted, the wine was raised in very little new oak and includes 20% whole-bunch. I can’t wait to see the future of this wine from this site. From a 20 year old vineyard planted with MV6 in Shoreham. 20% whole bunches and matured in French hogsheads (10% new). The yield was 40% down on 2023.
This is due to windy, cool conditions during flowering which resulted in poor fruit set and lower yields. The quality has not been impacted and this site is proving to produce excellent quality fruit each year.
