Description

Wendouree are wine-lovers wines. Their distinctive beauty confronts & challenges the drinker year on year, making them some of Australia's most recognised & sought-after wines. Tony & Lita Brady, custodians of Wendouree since 1974, have built the estate into the opposite of Australia’s modern, market-driven, high-tech industry, still only selling directly to their trusted mailing list year to year. Hidden in a clearing of red gums not far from the township of Clare, the old stone cellars, built-in 1914, are still in use and almost unaltered today. The wines made here are individual and age-worthy in the style of winemakers past.

Review
Deep red-purple hue with a sandalwood overtone to the subtly cassisy bouquet which doesn't shout cabernet but is certainly varietal, the main impression being beautifully fragrant and seamless, no single characteristic dominating. The wine is full bodied and firm with richness and flesh, and again, that sense of seamless purity. Refreshing acidity keeps it all spritely, the finish long and refreshing. An utterly beautiful wine.

Review
From Wendouree's 1920, 1940 Eastern and 1970 Eastern blocks. A straight up cabernet sauvignon. Poised and precise with depth of flavour and an old-school feel to it with Chesterfield lounge, cigar smoke and rich cassis in tow. Leather, woody spices, currants and dark choc-mint notes, clove and mahogany, blackcurrants, blackberry and even a touch of blood orange and ginger, too. Lots going on, is the message. Rich, ripe, dense but medium weight, a compact tannin profile and great extension of flavour. Good chew and a gentle crushed rock minerality in the mix. There's vitality here, stretching long and luxurious. For the long haul and so very poised and beautiful.
