Melba Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Halliday Wine Companion 2023: Only released in good years, this is made from parcels planted on the De Bortoli Estate in 1971, 1987, 1988 and 1990. Individual batches were fermented on skins for up to 40 days and the wine was matured in French oak casks for 15 months (40% new). A medium-deep cherry red. Aromas of cassis, black plum, olive tapenade and cigar box are present, developing complexity the longer it sits in the glass. Medium bodied, richly fruited and structured, this impressive wine was built for the long haul. It will reward those with both the wallet and patience to cellar it.
