These grapes come from the vineyard Ravera in Novello at a height 360 mt above sea level, the soil is marl - calcareous with a tendency to clayey, with a good permeability. The vineyard has a very good South exposure.
The vineyard is composed of Nebbiolo (Michet, Lampia and Rosè) with Italian cloning material. The training system is Guyot with 4.700 plants per hectare.
The wine making process is in the traditional way, where for 25 days “rimontaggi and follatura” take place i.e. the must is pumped over the cap several times a day to avoid drying out, and also the cap is mechanically broken up. This happens at a temperature of 30 °C to optimize extraction. The wine is then drawn off, and left in steel vats for 2 months, then is matured in oak casks for 60 months. Then up to today the wine is kept in the bottle in our underground cellar where there is a constant temperature of 16°C.
A brilliant Barolo with more than a decade in age already under its belt. Drinking beautifully now, but it certainly has another fifteen to twenty years ahead of it, in good cellars. For enjoying today, several hours decanting seems a minimum requirement. There is a brightness to the colour, and yet it is a deep red. The complexity here is immediately obvious. Tobacco leaf notes, florals, hints of orange rind, mulberries and truffles are all present and correct. The texture is supple, the wine is clean and balanced and there is a lingering finish. The wine certainly has the famous tar and roses characters, but there are also notes of sun-dried tomatoes on the palate. This is a cracker.
Enticing scents of red berry, crushed rose petal and wild herb take center stage. Round and savory, the palate offers juicy black cherry, licorice and tobacco framed in polished tannins and fresh acidity. It won't need years to come around, but it will also stand up to midterm aging. Drink 2019–2028.
