Description

Harvested from premium vineyards across the Clare Valley, bunches are handled to bring out the unique characters of each block. Kilikanoon vineyards span all three valleys that make up the distinctive environment of the Clare Valley region.

A covenant is a pact made between people. Kilikanoon’s continual focus on its exceptional Shiraz is a pact it honours every year. The Covenant holds all the hallmarks of classic Clare Valley Shiraz, by selecting the very best fruit that represents the region’s elevated distinctiveness and its regional signature.

With vineyards spanning the length of the valley, parcels were harvested at opportune times as the berries developed their rich flavour profile. Crushed into stainless steel tanks, the grapes were allowed to naturally begin fermentation. Once complete, the skins were pressed, and the wine was placed into new and seasoned French oak hogsheads for 12 months. Once each batch softened, a blend that shows the refinement and richness of cooler climate Shiraz was created by selecting barrels out of each batch.

Review
There is something intrinsically Australian – Clare Valley, too, for that matter – about raising a glass of red and the sweet scent of Aussie bush and mint slowly infiltrates the senses. You are taken into the country in one sniff, one taste. Covenant ’24 boasts a lively immediacy with the strong scent of mint, peppermint, Aussie bush, mingling freely with black fruits, blueberries and plum with a light spiciness in train. The comfort factor runs high here in a wine that is warm and generous. A savoury, black olive note finds its way on the palate amid ripe fruits, spice, mint, bay leaf and earth and a dressing of cedary, toasty oak. Oak then proceeds to close the wine.

Review
A lush and supple red of rich fruit flavour, great ripeness, a little miss in tannin and structure, but if you're hanging for a lavish, bold red wine experience, you'd be served well here. Stewed plum, dark chocolate, eucalyptus, bitter herbs, lots of pencil shavings and clove. Full on, a little warm and coarse through the finish, but the big nature of the wine delivers if seeking that

Palate

Ripe, dark black currant and mulberry are lifted by a rich core of crisp red fruit that remain bright across the entire length of the palate. The natural acid lifts this full bodied wine giving it a bright and crisp texture. French oak seamlessly gives way to a graphite and river stone tannin that is fine and persistent. This wine is finely balanced with a supple texture that is full and rich from start to finish.
