Description

Embark on a vinous journey with Domaine Pinson, a Chablis gem rooted in a rich history dating back to 1540. Pioneers in 1880, they were among the first to share their wines with the world, exporting their inaugural vintage to America. Helmed by the dynamic duo of Charlène and Laurent Pinson, a father-daughter team, the legacy continues. Charlène, armed with a viticulture and winemaking degree from Beaune, has been crafting exceptional wines since 2008, refining her artistry in the prestigious Rhône Valley.

Our Premier Cru, a masterpiece from 70-year-old vines on the left bank of the Serein river, epitomizes terroir. With a South Eastern exposure and a unique blend of Kimmeridgian limestone, blue and grey clay, this wine reveals exceptional water-holding capacity. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in carefully selected 3-5-year-old barrels for 8 to 9 months, it emerges as a testament to the synergy of old vines and stony soils. Intense mineral aromas and remarkable power characterize this wine, offering a captivating expression of Domaine Pinson's unwavering commitment to excellence. Indulge in a sensory journey that transcends time and terroir, a true embodiment of Chablis craftsmanship.

Spicy and floral nuances add breadth to the green apple, iodine and white pepper aromas. The more refined if less powerful flavors exude evident minerality on the markedly, even aggressively, citrus-inflected and bone-dry finale that it shaped by bright acidity. At present I suspect that the citrus character might be too much for some though I would expect it to slowly mitigate.

Light snow with the frost on the left bank was bad news. Very lively bouquet, a little lemony reduction. Plenty of energy here, a light iodine touch, just the right volume of fruit and the oak is well integrated. Promising in its persistence.

Tasting Profile

Nose
Spicy and floral nuances intricately weave through the aromatic tapestry, enhancing the green apple, iodine, and white pepper notes. The bouquet is layered, with the interplay of these elements contributing to its breadth and complexity.
Palate
On the palate, the more refined yet less overtly powerful flavors unfold, revealing a pronounced minerality. The wine evolves into a marked, even aggressive, citrus-inflected finale, underscored by a bone-dry texture. Bright acidity shapes this distinct expression, providing a refreshing and invigorating character. While the current intensity of citrus might be bold for some palates, there is an anticipation that it will gradually mellow over time, offering a nuanced and balanced drinking experience.
