Description

Lion's Tooth is 'dent-de-lion', or dandelion. Never knew that's where the word dandelion came from, despite the huge amount of French wine we've drunk.

There are dandelions all over this tiny 0.4 ha site that produces Chardonnay of rare depth and complexity. It is bigger and broader than the Field of Fire while still retaining tension and drive.

Chalky, sinewy, needs opening up in the glass, or time in the cellar.

One of NZ's most exceptional white wines.

Tasting Profile

Nose
Golden straw colour with a bright Meyer lemon hue. Sunny aromas, with nectarine and buttercup sitting amongst the mandarin, ripe lemon and fresh cashew nut.
Palate
Immediately open and concentrated on the palate, grilled stonefruit, lemons, marscapone, flowering thyme, oatmeal biscuit and distinctive grilled cashew nut; richness is ever present then becomes confined by the feel of limestone chalkiness and salt.
