Bouchard Père & Fils
The story of Bouchard Père et Fils begins in 1731. Nearly three centuries ago. A merchant family in Beaune that slowly built one of Burgundy’s largest estates. Today there are more than 130 hectares — 12 in Grand Cru, 74 in Premier Cru — a patchwork of plots spread from the Côte de Beaune to the Côte de Nuits.
The white wines are what many reach for first. Bouchard Père et Fils Chardonnay from Meursault is generous — orchard fruit, hazelnut, a lick of minerality. Puligny-Montrachet is tauter, Corton-Charlemagne grander, with the shoulders to age for decades. Some wines are bright and ready in youth, others open slowly, rewarding patience. That variety is what makes the domaine’s whites so compelling.
The reds carry equal weight. Pinot Noir from Beaune or Volnay shows red fruit, spice, a little earth. The wine called “Beaune du Château” has been bottled since 1907, blended from Premier Cru plots, and still offers extraordinary value. Higher up the ladder you’ll find Clos Vougeot, Chambertin, Le Corton — wines with darker fruit, firmer structure, meant for long rest in the cellar.
This is Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils. Not only a merchant but a grower too. Grapes are still hand-picked, parcels tended individually. And beneath Beaune sits the Château de Beaune. Once a fortress, is now a cellar. Thick stone walls hold bottles quietly, some for decades before they ever see daylight.
What sets Bouchard apart is not just its size but its range. Weeknight Bourgogne, yes. But also Grand Crus that collectors prize. Wines for the table, wines for the cellar. Approachable, profound. Everyday, exceptional.
At The Reserve Cellar, we include Bouchard Père et Fils as part of a curated Burgundy line-up. Not just because it’s historic. But because the bottles deliver — from Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault Chardonnay to their Grand Cru Pinot Noir. Open one tonight, or lay one down for the future. Either way, you’re tasting more than fruit. You’re tasting centuries of Burgundy, carried forward in glass.
