Description

Our commitment to high quality, our love and respect for the land, innovation that becomes tradition, the pioneering spirit and the tailor-made approach with limited yields and small productions allowed us to define a unique, rigorous and authentic style, which has become the hallmark of our wines.

Enchanted since long time by the very particular terror of Monforte d’Alba village, in 2014 the Pio family finally completed the acquisition of vineyards in the most historical portion of “Mosconi” appellation, where they are still managing to grow very old Nebbiolo vines, used mainly to produce Barolo Mosconi.

Presented for the first time with 2015 vintage –30 years after Ornato first release – Barolo Mosconi express the power of the calcareous and marly soils of this region but also soft and harmonious tannins, with spicy and floral nose and delicate and charming tones, due to the high elevation of this vineyard. Unique, like its long ageing potential.
Produced in very small quantity every year, since 2015.

Review
This regal expression of Barolo comes from old vines in Monforte d'Alba's prized Mosconi vineyard. Aromas of dusty dried cherries lead a procession down a gravel path, accompanied by black tea leaves and whispers of cigar box spice. Warmed plums and fruit compote ascend on the palate, lifted by blood orange zest and fresh cut herbs. The elegant tannins, shaped by 30 months in French oak, descend like royalty on a grand staircase, floating not walking. The finish refuses to bid farewell, lingering like the last dance at a royal ball. A wine that makes time stand still. Drink from 2027.
