Made from the young vines of Musigny, of which the most recent date back to 2007, the oldest from the 1990s. Classic intense purple. The nose is really stylish, bearing the majesty of Musigny. There is a considerable weight of fruit here, though obviously not equal to the grand vin and not so nuanced. Grenadine and deep raspberry, before going to the black side. Very fine, and persistent.

Lupatelli noted that the 2020 version of this wine will be the oldest, in terms of vine age, that they will have had because in 2021 the first tranche of vines will have "graduated" to the old vines cuvée; as such, the 2021 version (and beyond) will again be younger during the time until the next replanted tranche reaches 25 years of age. Here too the nose is exuberantly spicy and floral with its aromas of poached plum and black raspberry. There is excellent intensity to the tautly muscular larger-scaled flavours that also brim with a borderline pungent minerality on the impressively complex and persistent finale. 2020, along with the 2019, is one of the best vintages of this wine in recent memory.
