Description

Torbreck Vintners was created with the aim of building one of the finest wine estates in the world. The vision is to pay homage to the vineyards of the Barossa Valley, home to some of the oldest vines on the planet.

The name Woodcutter's stems from when Torbreck founder David Powell spent several years working in the Scottish Highlands as a lumberjack or woodcutter in the Torbreck forest. Like all Torbreck wines it's sourced from hand harvested and hand tended, low yielding vines. It is then open fermented and gently basket pressed, and aged one fine lees for 12 months in large format seasoned barrels and foudres.

Although this wine is constantly praised for being succulent and rich - perhaps the best feature of this wine is it's complexity and texture which are rarely found at this price.

Review
A harmonious, black-cherry-rich shiraz sourced from the Barossan parishes of Marananga, Greenock, Seppeltsfield, Gomersal, Moppa, Lyndoch and Ebenezer. Satsuma plum, the aforementioned cherries, five-spice, bay leaf, licorice, biltong, citrus blossom and earth. I love the pure, savoury fruit core here, like a tube of black cherry and spice, travelling straight and true with fine tannin support and boundless energy. Great drinking.
