Description

The Gask is sourced from elevated Eden Valley sites of old vine Shiraz and takes its name from the Gask Ridge, a series of Roman fortifications close to the highland line near the Torbreck Forest

The elevated sites in Eden Valley yield small, intense berries that possess great intensity of flavour without sacrificing balance and poise.

Heroic in style, it still retains the cooler edge and tighter structure that make the great wines from Eden Valley famous.

The name Gask references to the stone burial grounds on the hills above the Torbreck forest - rocky outcrops that are scattered throughout Scotland - eerily similar to the landscape of the Eden Valley.

The Gask is a Shiraz sourced from elevated, cooler-climate sites along the upper reaches of the Eden Valley. These higher-altitude vineyards produce fruit with pronounced aromatics, refined structure, and natural acidity. The hand-harvested grapes are fermented in small open-top fermenters. Following basket pressing, the wine is matured in seasoned French oak barriques for 18.

Bottled unfined and unfiltered, The Gask offers a perfumed, finely structured expression of cool-climate Barossa Shiraz.

Review
Very deep, saturated purple-red colour with understated but plum and graphite shiraz aromas that lead into a palate of good concentration and abundant tannins, albeit with smoothly rounded edges. A hint of dark chocolate. Fleshy, ample and long-lasting on the palate. Impressive potential: just needs more time for the full payoff. Drink: 2026–2041

Tasting Profile
Nose

Blue and purple fruits are immediate on the nose with aromas such as wild blueberries, mulberries and boysenberries. Theres an intriguing graphite and granite like minerality interwoven across secondary notes such as violets, potpourri, cedar and sandalwood.

Finish

The palate is plush and envelopes the cool blue fruit flavours alongside soft round tannins and lengthy acidity that rounds out the polished textural mouthfeel.
