Description

In the words of Jeremy Oliver, “Pierro is one of the few Australian wineries that could claim to have established a trend that many others have followed. Since the mid 1980’s Mike Peterkin has crafted a Chardonnay of not only monumental power, but of simultaneously smooth and silky delivery”. The Pierro ‘style’ was first made in 1986 and refined with every subsequent vintage.

Today the Pierro is regarded as one of the finest Chardonnays in the region. Seeing as Margaret River is indisputably Australia!s premier Chardonnay producing region, this is a major honour.

The 2024 Margaret River vintage was the earliest on record, with warm, dry conditions from spring through summer leading to healthy vines, low disease pressure, and excellent fruit quality. While yields were modest, the smaller crops delivered concentrated flavours, vibrant aromatics, and fresh acidity. A bumper marri blossom also reduced bird pressure, and the mature vines with deep roots along with careful vineyard and winery management produced wines of strong varietal character, depth, and balance.

This is a wine of great finesse yet impressive power, tight structure yet generosity of flavour.

It will start to be at its best 3 years from release and will continue to mature gracefully for another 10 years. An ideal accompaniment to seafood and white meat dishes. Ideal cellaring temperature is a constant 14-16 degrees celsius.

Review
From one of Margaret River’s great chardonnay producers, this is yet another brilliant example of the style that has made Pierro so admired. You wouldn’t guess it came from a warm year—it’s delicate and fine, with a pristine brightness. The nose shows light grapefruit, citrus, a touch of butterscotch, and a subtle mealy note in the background. The palate has real zing, with lively, pristine acidity driving through to a sustained finish. A chalky, minerally edge adds to the linear feel and precision. Another outstanding Pierro chardonnay.

Review
Light yellow hue with a honeyed, buttery croissant bouquet that shows chardonnay generosity, including malolactic character. The palate is rich and full, rounded and ample, showing the full gamut of Burgundian chardonnay characters. Very smart, but it looks almost old-fashioned beside most mod Oz chardies

Ripe melony, peachy characters yet noticeable restraint and subtlety. An unctuous mouth-feel yet with taut, fine acidity on the finish.
