Description

Pierre-Yves Colin left the family domaine in 2005 (Domaine Marc Colin in Saint-Aubin) to branch out on his own, and today, together with his wife Caroline Morey, has established Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey as one of Burgundy’s most exciting and sought-after producers. Based in Chassagne-Montrachet they craft mineral-driven Chardonnays and refined Pinot Noirs from some of the finest terroirs in the Côte d’Or.

The white wines are whole bunch pressed, fermented with native yeasts and aged on lees for up to 18 months in mostly larger 350 litre barrels without any lees stirring.

A blend of multiple parcels totalling 1.64 ha, but all from this same village’s lieu-dit, with 3 generations of vines. This is the largest parcel of the domaine at over 1 hectare located at the end of the valley above the village of St Aubin.

The white wines are whole bunch pressed, fermented with natural yeasts, aged on lees for up to 18 months in mostly in 350 litre barrels with no lees stirring and no filtration.

Burghound describes 2021 as "the kind of vintage that they absolutely love. Otherwise, expressed, it’s a burg geek’s vintage par excellence. The best wines are superbly fresh and transparent as the underlying terroir is wonderfully clear; indeed it’s at the core of each wine.... Outstanding transparency though is not all there is as the wines are strikingly refreshing and tension filled."

Review
The 2021 Saint-Aubin Village comes from three parcels and sports a discrete reduction on the nose. This is nicely focused with plenty of energy. The palate is really convincing with an energetic opening, a seductive mixture of citric acidity intertwined with tropical notes of lime and apricot. Very focused and brimming with life, this will be irresistible in its youth. Drink 2025-2038.

Review
The 2021 Saint-Aubin Village is excellent, exhibiting aromas of pear, green apple, mint, white flowers and hazelnuts. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with chalky structuring extract and tangy acids, it concludes with a long, precise finish.
