Description

The Premier Cru Les Folatières is located on the westward slope of the village of Puligny-Montrachet, with an average gradient of 10%, an altitude between 250 and 272 meters, and an orientation towards the southeast.

The soil, a brown-red color, 40-60 centimeters thick, is very rich in angular, white limestone rocks.

The sub-soil of Folatières is made up of very compact limestone which crumbles into thick slabs, used as part of a marble quarry under the name “Pierre de Chassagne,” or “Stone of Chassagne.”

Review
The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru comes from younger vines between five and ten years old, picked a few days before Les Combettes. The nose offers hints of yellow plum, egg white and almond that unfurl with aeration. The palate is well balanced and quite forward, with a slightly tangy opening. However, it misses some mineralité and nerve toward the finish. This is an early-drinking Puligny. Drinking Window, 2025 - 2030.
