Description

Indulge in the sophistication of 'Sophia,' a meticulously handcrafted blend dominated by Merlot. This creation not only showcases the Vigneron's artistry but also reflects a profound connection to the land, embodying the pinnacle expression of terroir and the people behind it. Drawing inspiration from Greek mythology, where 'Sophia' translates to 'wisdom,' our wine pays homage to the goddess of knowledge and experience. This philosophy becomes the guiding light for our winemakers and viticulturists, shaping every nuance of this exquisite blend with a dedication to wisdom and understanding.

An exceptionally warm spring ushered in the growing season ahead of schedule. The subsequent summer, characterized by mild temperatures and scarce rain days, resulted in diminished yields.

Review

A blend of merlot and cabernet franc from the Gimblett Gravels district. Beautifully scented wine with intense cherry/berry, dark-fleshed plum, a suggestion of floral and spicy French oak flavours. Well-structured wine with gently mouthwatering acidity and an impressively lengthy finish. Should age well.

Tasting Profile

Nose
Deep, garnet red. The 2021 Sophia has an openness rarely seen in this wine owing to a perfect summer of heat and dry days.
Palate
Subtle notes of wild thyme and sage seamlessly blend with plum, fruit cake and brioche. The mid-palate suppleness and sweetness are already so enticing and sure to appeal to loyal followers of this wine. A delicious release.
