Sordo Barolo Monvigliero DOCG 2016

Smells deep, brooding, spicy, dark cherry, suede leather, mineral, alpine herb. Red and black cherry, firm graphite feel to tannin, roundness but straight lines of flavour delivered within a stream of pure acidity, long finish all suffused with more mineral tannin and latent perfume. Wow.

Beautiful perfume, so fragrant, rose hip tea, rose water, red cherries, wild herbs. Leaps from the glass. Etched with fine tannin but bursting with flavour, sour cherry, rose hip tea again, swishes of fine, very firm graphite-like tannins and coursing, vivacious acidity pulling the wine long. So pure, complex, outstanding. Maybe a point higher at a pinch. A very ‘my style’ Barolo.

Verduno. Tasted blind. Mid ruby. Lifted sour-cherry nose with hints of dark stalks and of oak. Quite pure sour-cherry fruit on the palate with masses of coating tannins. Fantastic, supple acidity streamlining the whole.
