Review
The blend here is 35% Grenache, 33% Shiraz and 32% Mourvedre from the Barossa. 48% of whole bunches are included and then the wine undergoes ageing for nine months in older French oak barrels. The vineyards which provide the fruit date back into the 1800s and average over 75 years of age. If there is one thing that Dean Hewitson and his team never fail to do, that is to make wines full of flavour that are terrific drinking. Deep garnet, this is fresh and full of energy. Finely balanced, there are notes of red fruits, dry herbs, raspberries, mulberries and coffee grinds. This is seamless in structure with silky tannins, a seductive texture and excellent length. Cracking value, wonderful drinking and a future for at least the next five to eight years.
