Description

Many Domaines in Burgundy can trace their roots back over 100 years, but only a handful can claim more than 200 years of history. Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé can trace a line back over 550 years, to 1450 and the Chambolle vines of one Jean Moisson.

Highly regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle Musigny, today the Domaine is headed by its 20th generation – Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, the granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogüé. The de Vogüé villages wine comes mainly from a 1.8 hectares plot in the climate of Les Porlottes, close to the wood on the western side of the village, with a typical production of a little over 400 cases.

Review

The wine has a youthful exuberance that is highly engaging, with a pure, ripe cassis fruit and profuse floral notes. The texture is fresh, lively and energetic, without any lack of substance. An impressive wine, well above the norm for this level. Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé blends grapes from the mid-slope lieu-dit Les Porlottes along with some young-vine material from Les Fuées and Les Baudes. As with the other wines in the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and given a cold soak prior to fermentation on native yeasts and ageing in cask (15% new).
