Description

Introducing a captivating blend of Heathcote (66%) and Harcourt (34%) Syrah from Place of Changing Winds, a testament to both quality and value. Despite its position as our entry-level offering, this wine receives the same meticulous attention to detail as our esteemed cuvées, showcasing serious intensity, refined tannins, and impressive age worthiness.

Approximately 70% whole bunches contribute to the wine's depth and complexity, while its maturation process, beginning in a selection of premium casks including the renowned large Stockinger, followed by tank rest, ensures optimal development. Bottled with care in late December 2023, this spicy and vibrant Syrah/Shiraz epitomizes the essence of cool-climate elegance. Enjoyable in its youth yet destined for graceful aging, this wine represents a remarkable balance of immediate pleasure and long-term satisfaction.

Review

It feels friendly and easy drinking in its way, despite also holding a sense of inkiness and depth. Dark cherry, ripe plum, choc-liquorice with swathes of eucalyptus, dried green herb, pepperberry, lifted myrtle-like pungency – all attractive, all just so. A smooth ride, a pleasure zone red of evenness and general syrah-isms. Cool as.

Tasting Profile

Nose
Emanating vibrancy, this Syrah captivates with aromas of freshly picked red berries and purple flowers, as noted by [Ben] Mullen, who ranked it among the top six.
Palate
Medium-bodied and finely tuned, it reveals a seamless flow of tannins derived from both fruit and oak. The fruits on the palate are driven by a compelling tension of acidity, while nuanced savory elements of fresh crushed leaves and autumnal hints emerge, courtesy of the whole bunch fermentation. With its impressive weight, textured mouthfeel, and lingering finish, this Syrah exemplifies a harmonious balance of style, making it a truly delightful expression.
