Established in 1776, Champagne Louis Roederer stands as a unique testament to enduring family tradition in the world of Champagne. Over the course of two centuries, six successive generations have been united by an unwavering commitment to excellence. In 2006, Frederic Rouzaud seamlessly assumed leadership from his father, Jean-Claude Rouzaud, who continues to serve as the Chairman of the Board. A luminary in the field, Jean-Claude, the grandson of Madame Camille Olry-Roederer and a seasoned Oenologist, presided over the company for an impressive 38 years, earning the esteemed title of the 'Sage' of Champagne, a reflection of his profound wisdom in the realm of sparkling wines.
2013 was characterised by a particularly late growing cycle. A seemingly endless winter was followed by a very cool, late spring. We had to wait until the start of July for flowering to begin – something we hadn’t seen in Champagne for quite some time! Fortunately, summer was glorious with plenty of sunshine, record high temperatures and very low rainfall, ideal for the ripening of the Pinot noirs and Chardonnays. The temperatures were cool for the October harvest and the resulting wines are elegant and fresh – the signs of a classic vintage.
