While Pinot Noir has traditionally held the spotlight in Oregon's Willamette Valley, Chardonnay is now emerging as a captivating new star. Although Chardonnay has been cultivated in the region for some time, a recent breakthrough involves pinpointing the perfect Chardonnay clones and pairing them harmoniously with their optimal soil compositions. This union has ignited a passionate love affair with this Burgundian grape, so much so that even Dominique Lafon, one of Burgundy's most esteemed producers, has hailed Willamette Valley Chardonnay as "the best in the New World." And among the vanguard of producers crafting the most exhilarating Chardonnays in the region stands 00 (Double Zero) Wines.

00 meticulously sources Chardonnay grapes from some of Willamette Valley's most renowned and discerning growers. Their approach employs the "Black Chardonnay" method, a technique that exposes grape juice to a substantial dose of oxygen before fermentation—without the addition of sulfites—resulting in a remarkable transformation from dark brown or black juice to a radiant golden hue. Remarkably, the wine maintains its resistance to oxidation once bottled. This method, practiced in Burgundy and California, yields remarkable rewards when executed with precision.

The VGW bottling is more than just an abbreviation; it stands for Very Good White, and it lives up to its name with unwavering excellence. This is a Chardonnay that stands proudly alongside some of the finest creations from Burgundy and beyond. What's more, it's bottled with minimal pre-bottling sulfites, emphasizing its commitment to purity and quality.
