Introducing our Avignon Reserve 2021, a tribute to the illustrious winemaking traditions of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region in France. Crafted from a harmonious blend of Grenache, Shiraz, and Mourvèdre, lovingly known as GSM, this wine embodies the essence of its namesake town.
Sourced from our renowned 90-year-old Barossa vines, each vintage of Avignon is a unique expression, shaped by the nuances of the year's conditions and the composition of the grapes.
The 2021 vintage graced us with ideal weather conditions, described simply as 'Brilliant'. Cool, dry days in the Barossa Valley fostered the development of exceptional quality grapes, resulting in wines bursting with a kaleidoscope of aromas and flavors. Soft, supple tannins abound in the reds, ensuring a delightful drinking experience in their youth, while careful cellaring promises rewards for years to come. This season truly stands as a pinnacle of quality, earning a resounding 10/10 rating.
Our winemaking process pays homage to our historic vines, some of the oldest in the Barossa Valley. The 2021 Avignon is crafted from 94-year-old Grenache and Mourvèdre, complemented by 59-year-old Shiraz, each varietal fermented on skins for 7 to 10 days with meticulous attention to avoid over-extraction. Following pressing, each batch is aged separately, meticulously racked over twelve months, before being expertly blended and lightly filtered for bottling.
Experience the heritage and pedigree of Avignon Reserve 2021, a wine that epitomizes the timeless artistry of Barossa Valley winemaking.
